Parent Input Form

It is hard to believe that we are entering the time of transition for our students.  As we do, we would love to learn a little more about them.  Thank you for assisting us with classroom placement for the 2020-21 school year.

Heritage Highlights for Parents & Guardians

Heritage Mission Statement:

Bringing the community together by learning to navigate the world through our Heritage experience.

The SAS Learner Profile is layered in three tiers. First, we have the 4 Cs (in the dark blue compass points) that are the pillars of the work we are doing and intend to do moving forward. Second, we have the CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT (in the light blue compass points) that support our work. And, Finally, we have the STUDENT ATTRIBUTES (in yellow) that we want all of our students to acquire before they graduate from SAS. This learner profile supports more than just a collaboration of thoughts from educators across our District, it represents the top skills that employers want from our students as well. In 2015, Forbes released a study from the National Association of Colleges and Employers. This study gathered survey information from hundreds of major employers across our country. The following is the top 10 skills employers say they seek, in order of importance: Ability to work in a team structure Ability to make decisions and solve problems Ability to communicate verbally with people inside and outside of an organization Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work Ability to obtain and process information Ability to analyze quantitative data Technical knowledge related to the job Proficiency with computer software programs Ability to create and/or edit written reports Ability to sell and influence others As you can see, the SAS Learner Profile connects with all of these skills that employers seek.

  1. Wednesday, October 3, 2018 (Early Release Day #1)
  2. Wednesday, November 7, 2018 (Early Release Day #2)
  3. Friday, January 18, 2019 (Early Release Day #3)

Early release days provide better opportunities for our teaching staff to assemble and improve their craft.  On these days, school will dismiss a few hours early. On these early release days (just like we do for a "traditional" ½ day), school buses will transport students home at the conclusion of these days. Parents can also choose to come and pick up their child (children) at the conclusion of these days. Further, at the earlier grades (PK/Kindergarten-8th Grade) there will be a reduced price childcare option ($10 per session) for those parents who need / want this for their children on these early release days. Lunch will be served on all early release days in grades PK/K-8th grade.

½ Days – 12:10 dismissal

  1. November 28, 2018 (½ day for K-8th grade students)
  2. November 29, 2018 (½ day for ALL students)
  3. March 14, 2019 (½ day for ALL students)
  4. March 15, 2019 (1/2 day for ALL students)
  5. June 14, 2019  (½ day for ALL students)

On "traditional" ½ days, the reduced price childcare option is not offered. However, childcare is still available at the regular price. Further, we do not serve lunch on "traditional" ½ days.

Heritage School Family Handbook 2020-21

From Your Principal:

Laura WashingtonLaura Washington

I hope that everyone is as excited to start the 2019-20 school year as I am!  As we “swarm together” at Heritage this year, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our new students, families, and staff.

This is my 17th year with the Saline Area Schools.  In that time, I have held the titles of Spanish Teacher, Saline Middle School Assistant Principal, English Language Learner Coordinator, and now, this is my fourth year as the Principal of Heritage School.

I am proud of Heritage for many reasons, but in particular the growth that has happened the last four years.  In that time, we have been committed to project-based learning and coming together as a community through  our community meetings.  Also, there has been a strong emphasis on literacy, through initiatives like #heritagebookaday and One Book, One School and our new Heritage vending machine!  I am honored to work with such committed staff members who are excited about bringing their love of teaching and your kids to school with them every day.

Thank you all for sharing your children with us!  We are looking forward to an extraordinary year!
